Are the generated teams competitive?

The teams use real competitive sets from Smogon usage stats, but random generation means type synergy and team composition may not be optimal. They're great for inspiration, testing, or fun, but competitive viability depends on how well the random picks work together.

Generate a meta-weighted Gen 9 OU team

Q: How does the random team generator work?

The generator uses Smogon usage statistics to weight Pokemon selection. Pokemon with higher competitive usage are more likely to appear. It then randomly assigns moves, items, abilities, and EVs based on what competitive players actually use in that format.

Q: What formats are supported?

Gen 9 OU, Pokémon Champions VGC, UU, Ubers, Doubles OU, and National Dex OU. Open the format menu to see which formats have generation data available.

How close to the meta?

Sets reflect current usage, but the six picks may still need role balance, hazard control, speed control, or matchup coverage.

Generate a Showdown-ready Gen 9 OU team

This Gen 9 OU generator draws six Pokémon from the current OverUsed metagame and gives each one a complete, usage-weighted competitive set.

Use the result as a fast ladder starting point: copy it into Pokémon Showdown, test it, then adjust weak matchups and team roles to fit your playstyle.

What to check in a generated Gen 9 OU team

Add a reliable plan for entry hazards and hazard removal.
Check that the team has speed control instead of relying on six similar speed tiers.
Balance immediate wallbreaking power with defensive pivots that can bring those attackers in safely.

Supported Formats

OU (Overused)

Smogon's main singles format. The most-played tier on Pokémon Showdown.

Pokémon Champions

Pokémon Champions VGC 2026 Reg M-C uses Pokémon Champions rules on Pokémon Showdown. Bring six Pokémon and choose four for each battle, with two active at a time.

UU (Underused)

Pokémon that aren't common enough for OU but still compete in a deep meta.

Ubers

Gen 9 Ubers is a six-Pokémon singles format that allows many Pokémon banned from OU. Ubers still has its own rules and ban list.

Doubles OU

Gen 9 Doubles OU uses all six Pokémon in each battle, with two active at a time. It uses Smogon's rules and ban list for Scarlet and Violet.

National Dex OU

OU with Pokémon and moves from all previous generations re-enabled.

Copy, save, or share your team

Copy team text copies the full team to your clipboard. In the Showdown Teambuilder, open Import/Export, paste the text, and save.
Save to Showdown saves the team to your linked Showdown account. If needed, you will first sign in or link Showdown. This step also creates an unlisted crob.at page so you can continue after sign-in.
Create share link creates an unlisted team page and opens your device's share menu. If no share menu is available, it copies the link.
Create team page creates an unlisted team page and opens it. You can see the full sets and save the team from that page.
Roll again generates another team.

Anyone with an unlisted link can open it. The team stays out of Browse Teams and search. Copy team text does not create a team page.

Frequently asked questions

How does the random team generator work?

The generator samples from the top-30 Pokémon by usage rate in your chosen format, then randomly assigns moves, item, ability, and EV spread weighted by what competitive players actually use. The result is a valid Showdown export.

Are the generated teams actually competitive?

Each set is drawn from real Smogon usage statistics, so individual Pokémon are legit. Team synergy is random: quad weaknesses and coverage gaps are possible. Treat generated teams as a starting point or inspiration, not a tournament-ready build.

What formats are supported?

Open the format menu to see which formats you can generate now. Use the search box in that menu to find a format.

Can I save or share a generated team?

Yes. Save to Showdown adds the team to your linked account. Create share link shares an unlisted crob.at page. Create team page opens that page. Copy team text lets you import the team yourself.

How often are the usage stats updated?

The date above each generated team shows the month of its usage data. Available data can differ by format and may be older than the latest month.
