Generate a meta-weighted National Dex team

Six National Dex OU sets sampled from current usage. Generate a starting point, then tune its roles and matchups.

How close to the meta?

Sets reflect current usage, but the six picks may still need role balance, hazard control, speed control, or matchup coverage.

Generate a National Dex OU team

National Dex restores Pokémon, moves, and mechanics that are unavailable in standard Gen 9 OU, creating a much wider team-building pool.

Each roll uses current National Dex usage data for both Pokémon and their sets, so the result is immediately importable even when the six random picks still need synergy adjustments.

What to check in a generated National Dex team

  • Plan for hazards and removal across the larger pool of setters, blockers, and punishers.
  • Review speed tiers carefully because earlier-generation Pokémon and mechanics widen the matchup range.
  • Confirm that the six sets form a coherent offensive or defensive plan instead of six individually strong picks.

Random Pokémon Team Generator: How It Works

This random Pokémon team generator builds Showdown-ready teams by weighting every pick against real Smogon usage statistics. Each Pokémon is sampled proportionally to how often it appears in competitive play, so the output is meta-relevant: not a chaotic roll of 898 random species.

Choose a format: OU, Champions, UU, Ubers, Doubles, or National Dex, and the generator picks six Pokémon from the top-30 usage pool for that tier. Items, abilities, moves, and EV spreads are also drawn from what top players actually run. The finished team is valid Pokémon Showdown export format: click Save to Showdown to add it directly to your linked Showdown account, or use Share link for a private crob.at link with sprites.

Supported Formats

OU (Overused)
Smogon's main singles format. The most-played tier on Pokémon Showdown.
Pokémon Champions
The new Champions doubles format for current tournament-style play.
UU (Underused)
Pokémon that aren't common enough for OU but still compete in a deep meta.
Ubers
No bans. Legendaries and mythicals are fair game.
Doubles OU
Smogon doubles. Bring 4 of 6 and play 2v2.
National Dex OU
OU with Pokémon and moves from all previous generations re-enabled.

How it works

crob.at periodically syncs the latest published Smogon usage stats into local datasets for each format. Every roll reads that local dataset and samples from the top-30 usage pool, so higher-usage Pokémon appear more often, but niche picks can still show up. Each Pokémon's item, ability, nature, EVs, and four moves are also chosen weighted by usage. The result is valid Pokémon Showdown export format ready to paste into the teambuilder.

Share link and Open full team page create an unlisted crob.at link only when you ask for one. The Showdown handoff copies the complete raw export without saving it. Generated teams are a starting point. Swap things around to fit your playstyle.

Frequently asked questions

How does the random team generator work?
The generator samples from the top-30 Pokémon by usage rate in your chosen format, then randomly assigns moves, item, ability, and EV spread weighted by what competitive players actually use. The result is a valid Showdown export.
Are the generated teams actually competitive?
Each set is drawn from real Smogon usage statistics, so individual Pokémon are legit. Team synergy is random: quad weaknesses and coverage gaps are possible. Treat generated teams as a starting point or inspiration, not a tournament-ready build.
What formats are supported?
Gen 9 OU, Pokémon Champions, UU, RU, NU, PU, Ubers, Doubles OU, Battle Stadium Singles, Monotype, National Dex OU, and more. The format list updates as new Smogon tiers become available.
Can I save or share a generated team?
Yes. Use Share link or Open full team page to create an unlisted crob.at link with sprites and full set details. You can also copy the export and open Showdown without creating a link.
How often are the usage stats updated?
Smogon publishes usage stats monthly. crob.at syncs the latest published month into local generator datasets, so rolls use a consistent current metagame snapshot without waiting on a live Smogon request.
